 Registration
AHRQ WebM&M has two distinct registration processes. The main registration is for visitors who would like to receive the newsletter, be notified of changes to the site, or submit cases. This registration is completely anonymous. Because case submission is anonymous, the site has a separate registration process for individuals who want to obtain CME/CEU credit. In order to send you certification, we must collect contact information from you.
These two types of registration are not linked in any way, and you may choose to use the same or different e-mail addresses and passwords for each registration.
 How to Obtain CME/CEU
Each Spotlight module contains an actual case submitted by practicing clinicians, with expert commentary addressing issues of patient safety and medical errors. To obtain CME/CEU, click the CME link from within the Spotlight Case. This will direct you to the CME login page. If you have already registered for CME, enter your login ID and unique password. You may then proceed to the quiz, which will be graded immediately. If you pass, the UCSF CME office will mail a hard copy of the CME/CEU certificate to your address within 6-8 weeks. CME certificates are not available online. If you do not receive your certificate(s) within 8 weeks of successfully completing a module, please email us at webmm@medicine.ucsf.edu.
To access information about your performance on previous CME modules and see modules still available for you to complete, log in to the CME portion of the AHRQ WebM&M site. To return to the AHRQ WebM&M home page and main site, you must log out of the CME area, or open a new browser window. Quizzes are listed in chronological order of their release date, with the most recent quiz at the top. If you wish to see the Spotlight module for any previous issues, please return to the main site and visit the archives page.
 Trainee Certification
Each spotlight module offers a unique opportunity for medical trainees to demonstrate competency in patient safety and health care quality. Residency programs are under increasing pressure from the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to show evidence that residents have achieved established learning objectives, in topics such as systems-based learning. Residents must demonstrate that they can effectively use systematic approaches to reduce errors and improve patient care. Program directors may use AHRQ WebM&M spotlight modules as a key component of their “tool box.” Trainees may print out a certificate verifying successful completion of each module.
 Accreditation
Date of original release: February 1, 2003. Release and Termination Dates: March 1, 2006 to March 1, 2009. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. UCSF is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 12 category 1 credits toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the activity.
For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) accepts AMA PRA category 1 credit issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.
The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts category 1 credit from AOACCME, prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA category 1 credit for the PRA for organizations accredited by the ACCME.
